My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is just great. It required not a lot of thought and just let you sit back and enjoy the show, the chemistry between the two lead actors and a great ensemble cast to support. There was plenty of jokes that were borderline sitcom, but the story of a Greek mom not letting go was entertaining, but not too much to make it painful. There were a lot of jokes about stereotypes, but that’s why this was a natural extension of that one. Its great they didn’t do this too early as a ‘cash in’ on the first and also use the time to tell a different phase of their lives. How can you not love this big, loud, beautiful family? The first My Big Fat Greek Wedding is basically a family tradition in my household and watching this addition after years and years of enjoying the first movie, I’m ecstatic that I was able to enjoy this equally. What these two movies have done SO well is show was family is REALLY like. It shows the dysfunction, it shows the ridiculous drama, and it shows the unconditional love underneath all of that. Family embarrasses you, family does things that you’ll never understand, family will fight at the drop of a hat but you wouldn’t trade it for anything. The jokes are new while the charm stays the same. I’m so happy with My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and if you’re a fan of the first, I’m confident you’ll be happy with this one too. This was a welcome downshift to something slower and immensely enjoyable.
